On the 19 th January 2021 the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), within the framework of the Year of Science and Technology in the Russian Federation, and together with partners from the United States, Belgium and France, will be hosting the Uspekhi Forum on Climate Change and Global Energy Issues 2021 — a joint scientific session of the RAS Division of Physical Sciences, the RAS Division of Chemical Sciences, the RAS Division of Earth Sciences and the RAS Division of Energetics, Machiery, Mechanical Engineering and Control Processes.
The Co-chairmen of the Forum are RAS President Academician A.M.Sergeev, Professor of the University of California in Irvine T.Tajima, Editor-in-Chief of the Forum and Editor-in-Chief of the journals Progress of Physical Sciences RAS Academician V.A.Rubakov.
Presentations will also be made by the Head of the Federal Research Centre for Coal and Coal Chemistry of the Siberian Branch of RAS Academician Z.R.Ismagilov, Dean of the Chemical Faculty of Moscow State University, RAS Corresponding Member S.N.Kalmykov, Director of the Arctic Research Laboratory of the V.I.Ilyichev Pacific Ocean Institute of the Far Eastern Branch of the RAS, RAS Corresponding Member I.P.Semiletov, Director General of The Extreme Light Infrastructure Professor A.Weeks (Belgium), Research Director of Ecole Polytechnique Professor F.Drobinski (France), CEO of Tri Alpha Enterprises Professor M.Biedenbauer (USA), Managing Director of Transform Insight Partners Professor N.Lee (USA), as well as Professor E.Rignott and Professor K.Makei of the University of California, Irvine (USA).
The presentations will focus on issues of the novel strategy for nuclear energy generation, the coupling between climate change and permafrost thawing in the Arctic land-shelf system: current understanding and grand challenges, the local and global climate change impact of coal mining, storage, transportation, processing and power generation, integrating climate variability and change in renewable energy planning, sustainable research and operations at the extreme light infrastructure: meeting the challenges of the 21 st Century at Europe’s large-scale laser facility, the impact of global warming on sea level and solutions, our changing oceans: exploring causes, consequences, and solutions, the new paradigm for civilian nuclear energy — perspectives from energy hierarchy and fundamental safety.
