The first ever meeting of the Academic Council under the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum Secretariat was held via videoconference on February 17, 2021.
The meeting was attended by Oleg Ozerov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and Head of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum Secretariat; Irina Donnik, Vice-President and Full Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Irina Abramova, Head of the Academic Council at the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum Secretariat, Director of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences; and Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Malenko, among others.
The attendees discussed the problems in the development of Russia-Africa cooperation in agriculture, as well as issue of biological resources and stepping up Russia-Africa cooperation in healthcare. Special attention was paid to the education and research work of undergraduate and graduate students from African countries.
The Russian Academy of Sciences proposed holding a series of academic events in 2021 covering a broad range of topics and involving scientists and scholars from Russia and Africa.
