The Russian Academy of Sciences took part in the 9th Nevsky International Ecological Congress

On May 27, 2021, the 9th Nevsky International Ecological Congress opened in the Tauride Palace in St. Petersburg. This year, the motto of the Congress is “Ecology of the Planet: Sustainable Development.”

The Congress is organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation under the auspices of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and with the participation of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States and members of the relevant professional community.

The Organizing Committee of the Congress is headed by Valentina Matviyenko, the Speaker of the Federation Council, and Viktoria Abramchenko, a Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

The Congress featured a series of round tables: “Rivers without Borders: Integrated Management of Water Resources,” “Current Environmental Awareness Issues,” “National Strategies and Projects Associated with Ecology and Environmental Protection. Sharing Experience,” “A New Climate Policy,” “Forest Resources: Protecting the Lungs of the Planet,” “The Arctic: Key Environmental Issues,” “Green Energy: The Only Option for the Future?” “The Circular Economy,” “Environmental Safety. Today’s Challenges and Solutions,” and “Green Funding: Mobilizing Resources to Achieve Eco-Friendly Modernization.” At these sessions, the Russian Academy of Sciences was represented by Boris Porfiriev, the Scientific Director of the Institute of Economic Forecasting of the RAS, Academician of the RAS; Andrey Golovnev, the Director of Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography of the RAS (the Kunstkamera), corresponding member of the RAS; Stepan Kalmykov, the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Chair of the RAS Scientific Council for Global Environmental Problems, corresponding member of the RAS; Professor Nikolay Aladin, the Director of the Laboratory for Mesohalobiotic Hydrobiology at the Zoological Institute of the RAS; Andrey Tronin, D.Sc. in Geology and Mineralogy, the Director of the St. Petersburg Scientific Research Center for Environmental Safety of the RAS; Vladimir Masloboev, the Head Advisor at the Federal Research Center “Kola Science Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences;” and other scientists.
