On June 17, the Presidium of the Scientific and Technical Council under the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission held a meeting.
The event was attended by Sergey Glazyev, a member of the Board – the EEC’s Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics, Boris Porfiriev, RAS Academician, Scientific Director of the Institute of Economic Forecasting of the RAS, Alexander Shirov, Corresponding Member of the RAS, Director of the Institute of Economic Forecasting of the RAS, Sergey Malenko, the Head of the International Cooperation Department of the RAS.
In addition to matters of implementing Strategic areas in exchanging practices and information for ensuring sustainable development and developing “green” economy programs and inter-country cooperation in sciences, technologies, and innovations, the participants discussed aligning the steps the states – members of the European Economic Union (EAEU) take to implement the Paris Climate Accords amid the European Union’s introducing cross-border carbon regulations.
The Russian Academy of Sciences proposed holding an international conference in the fall of 2021 on climate and issues in cross-border carbon regulations; the conference is to be organized by the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Eurasian Economic Commission.
Sergey Malenko, the Head of the International Cooperation Department of the RAS, noted, “Holding this conference prior to the World Climate Summit in Glasgow slated for November 2021 will allow for a broad discussion of the issues on this agenda, for comparing approaches adopted, among others, by the EU states, and for presenting the stance of Russia’s expert community to our international partners.”
The conference scheduled for October 2021 is expected to be attended by representatives of international organizations, ministries and agencies, expert bodies of states – members of the EAEU and the EU.
