The Russian Academy of Sciences takes part in the 11th German-Russian Week of the Young Researcher

A video conference meeting was held on October 25, 2021 as part of the 11 th German-Russian Week of the Young Researcher.It was organized by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) under the auspices of the German Centre for Research and Innovation (DWIH Moscow).

The Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) was represented by its Vice-President Academician Yuri Balega. Addressing the meeting, he stressed the importance of the decades of cooperation between the two countries’ scholars, also mentioning the recent Russian-German Science Forum «Brain Science and the Next Generation of Artificial Intelligence», which was organized jointly with DWIH Moscow.

«Currently, thirty-five scientific institutions under the scientific and methodological guidance of RAS departments collaborate with eighteen research centres affiliated with the Helmholtz Association in physics and astrophysics, biology, biochemistry, energy, earth and environmental sciences, space technology and aviation, and structure of matter, and they also carry out joint expeditions», Academician Yuri Balega said.

The research teams and scientific experts of the two countries discussed the challenges faced by science and the prospects for collaborative cross-border research during the pandemic.

These Weeks are part of the German-Russian Roadmap for Cooperation in Education, Science, Research and Innovation.

It should be noted that the Russian Academy of Sciences cooperates actively with many research centres in Germany. An agreement has been signed with the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres and a Memorandum of Understanding with the Max Planck Society for Scientific Research.

The Memorandum with the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina provides for participation in joint scientific events, organization of bilateral seminars and symposia, as well as establishment of a German-Russian Council for Young Scientists and Innovators.
