On October 21, 2021, the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) hosted a meeting between RAS President Academician Alexander Sergeev and Professor Richard Hoover, Head of the Astrobiology Laboratory at Athens State University (USA).

Richard Hoover is the author of over 300 scientific articles and 11 patents and remains active in scientific research, including by participating in international scientific conferences in Russia and around the world. He has been instrumental in promoting US-Russian scientific and technical cooperation in astrobiology through his collaboration with Russian scientists from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) using scanning electron microscopy.

In July this year, the RAS Presidium issued a resolution granting Prof. Hoover an Honoris Causa degree in astronomy from the RAS Department of Physical Sciences. The diploma was awarded during the meeting.

The Honoris Causa doctorate is awarded by the Russian Academy of Sciences to particularly distinguished foreign scientists.
